My biography

Hello everyone

My name is Riquer J. Reyes Calderón, I live in San Juan, I'm 22 years old.

I've been learning English for about 4 years but it started before. When I was a kid my father's coworker taught me few words in English, I didn't learn a lot but he always encouraged me to learn. I grew up with that motivation further watching many young students speaking the foreign language. I got engaged with the target language when I started on college and I'm still here trying to improve and get better at English as much is possible.

My father and his coworker are no alive to see the way I have grown in knowledge and maturity but I will never give up. I will go on until get all my goals achieved.

About Unit 3: The Bold and the Bashful

The Bold and the Bashful         The content of this unit reminded me of a time I was considered shy and introverted. I also particularly remember being  misattributed  of having an  aloof  personality by many of my classmates in middle school and high school. However, later I understood this was simply because I did not share most interests or hobbies with them; therefore, while it might sound a bit  condescending , I just did not make any efforts to be on their good side, or seek for their friendship as I found it pointless. Nonetheless, I did get to build great friendships with a few  kindred souls  along my formative years with whom, to this date, I feel comfortable and content around and can talk about pretty much everything. The Tipping Point

The Tipping Point According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a tipping point is " the critical point in a situation, process, or system beyond which a significant and often unstoppable effect or change takes place ". With this said, I think globalization has proven to be one of the most remarkable tipping points in worldwide history as it has had a tremendous effect in world economy, education, ideologies, health, and several other aspects of humanity.  For instance, it has made countries depend upon each other for sustaining their economy (e.g. tourism, petroleum, etc.) and also through free trade treaties. In addition, globalization has allowed for universities to reach international agreements. Studying abroad has become more accesible and as a result, professionals are being better equipped for their tasks. Unit 6: Spiritual Renewal

Spiritual renewal refers to practices or intends to get closer to the divine practices including fasting, praying, meditating, among others. This is not a new practice, it has been among us during centuries. All religions seek spiritual renewal, but their motivations are not always the same. For example, in fasting, we find that some religions do it to get spiritual discipline (episcopalianism), some others to get away from materialism (judaism), and others do it do to preserve their ancient traditions.It does not matter the reason why we seek to be renewed spiritually, what matters is that we all have the internal need to seek it. It seems like humans beings have the necessity to connect with something greater than the self.
