About Unit 5: Feng Shui, Ancient Wisdom Travels West
This unit has been particularly interesting to me
because from a young age I have been inclined to home decor. I used to travel
through the pages of magazines and wondered at the harmony and warmth that the
arrangement and choice of furniture transmitted. But I have to be honest, I
have never believed it has something to do with ch’i or “energy”; I just think of it for the sake of practicality
and aesthetics. Anything that hinders functionality at home or work will
obstruct your mood; however, you are
the one to decide where you invest your energy. On the other hand, I do believe
we can take some of Feng Shui principles of aligning furniture for our benefit.
It is of my utmost interest to be eclectic in this kind of matters.
I found an article online from a blogger called Mia
Danielle about how to declutter taking into account some Feng Shui principles.
Ugh! Cluttler! For some people it is so hard to part with it, but I have
learned that it blocks your productivity and peace. Some of her recommendations
for decluttering your kitchen are as follows:
- Removing harsh chemical cleansers from your
cleaning routine and using natural, eco-safe cleaners.
- Clean out all drawers in your kitchen, removing
broken items and those you do not use.
- Scrub walls, light fixtures, and surfaces
where grease and dust have built up over time. Don’t forget the top of
your refrigerator and kitchen surfaces while you’re there.
Personally, I have adopted as one of my mottos to buy things that are
easy to clean. Practicality relieves one from so much stress, so I think it is a necessary element to take into account at home.
