Unit 2: Honesty Is the Best Policy

This unit, Honesty is the Best Policy, was discussed in the class, the professor asked some people about what is to be honest; one student said that it means, not to take what is not yours. Another said that a person is honest when always say the truth, when does not say lies. On the other hand, we talked about honesty in the Dominican Republic, and they said that here we do not have honest people, it can perfectly be seen in politicians who are not honest instead they are corrupts, irresponsibles, unreliable, liars, among other things, that if I keep writing I won't probably end.

In my opinion, being honest is to have integrity, not taking things that are not yours, not lying, not cheating, being sincere and always tell the truth. An honest person is a person who is trustful, who is loyal, who is faithful, who has values, and whose opinion will always be sincere. Regarding honesty in the Dominican Republic I agree with what was discussed in the class that politicians are not honest people; however, I disagree when they said that in general there are not honest people in Dom. Rep., because I am sure and I know that there are honest people in here who even though the system, the government we have, and all those things are not working right, they always try to be honest.

Nothing to Hide  As we finished covering the former unit titled Honesty is the Best Policy, a French movie named Nothing to Hide (Le Jeu) suddenly  came to my mind. The film’s plot involved a group of old friends who gathered one evening for a dinner party. Things soon got out of hand after they decide to play a game that consisted in surrendering their cellphones, and placing them in the center of the dinner table, so as to allow all of them equal access to each other’s incoming calls and messages as proof that none of them had nothing to “hide” or conceal from each other. As the game progressed many unexpected and shocking secrets began to emerge exposing their dishonest behavior, leaving them all in the midst of irreparable conflicts and chaos. I decided then to re-watch this movie, but do so through critical lenses, so that I could explore and evaluate what may have compelled each individual of the film to straight up lie or, conceal information from each other. Unit 2. Honesty is the Best Policy.

There are many reasons why people lie, but all those reason end up wit the same goal: to get something in their favor.  We all have lied at a certain point in our life, to get a job, to convince someone of something, to run away with murder, and so on. Those pretty lies are seen like something that are fine and like if they are not going to cause any damage but that is not always true, some lies can bring really bad consequences. Workers are often accustomed to personal privacy in their private lives, but employers aren't necessarily obligated to give workers privacy while they're on the job. Employers hire workers to perform specific tasks --- time that employees spend taking care of private matters may seem wasteful in the eyes of the employer, so employers may monitor employee activities to determine which workers are wasting time or are engaged in activities that may raise legal issues or security concerns. A personal opinion, employers should allow workers to have a good time in the middle of their work hours, as long as they do not neglect their work and protect the information that the company and the employees handle.
