Honesty is the Best Policy!

Honesty is one of those values that are scarce these days. In other words, to be an honest person is out of fashion. Nobody wants to say the truth, unless it is advantageable; and nobody is willing to suffer the consequences that it brings. Once I read a short story called "Like the Sun", and it was about a man that made an experiment. He committed himself to say the truth and only the truth for one day. First, he started with his wife, telling her that the breakfast she cooked, was not edible. Then, he proceeded with one of his colleagues, that told him that someone passed away, and he said that this person was cruel and selfish while he was alive. Finally his headmaster invited him to his house. Sekhar (that was the name of the one making the experiment), did not know that the headmaster wanted his opinion as a well-known music critic, and the former had to say to the latter that his singing was dreadful. It was costfull at the end, because his headmaster told him that he appreciated the true, but Sekhar had to turn in his student's papers (before he said the truth he had ten days to correct them) the next day. Sekhar saw it as the luxury price to say the truth. But at the end it does not have to be this way. The truth should not be a burden, it should set us free. It frees us from inventing more lies, to cover the ones we already said. It frees uf from being someone we are not. It frees us from the believe that lies are always sweeter to our ears than honest words. The truth said in a loving and kind way will always be well- received.
