Unit4: The Tipping Point



In Tuesday’s class we were talking about The Tipping Point,  and the professor explained the vocabulary concerning to UNIT 4.

On the other hand, he clarified that in this lesson many words are about science. But they are not about medicine. He said that these words are use to talk about social things. 

First, “The Tipping Point” is an important moment. For example: February 27,1844— It’s a Tipping Point for the Dominican Republic. Also it’s an important moment in our lives.

Vocabulary from unit 4 

Transmission: Social—Transmit ideas

Mavens: When you have many ideas (When someone makes you buy things).

Word-of mouth 👄: People telling people.

Epidemic 😷: Spread of disease

Generate 💡: To create, to produce.

Got a hold of: To get in touch (To talk to the psychology).

Win over: To convince, persuade. Example: JCE is going to win you over to vote.

Profile: Present, describe.

Root: Origin. Example: The root of problem of the Dominican Republic is corruption.

Goes a long away toward: something that we need. Example: I need to go a long away toward obtaining my degree.

Holds: It is true.

Consumed by:  When something is taking your energy. Example: I’m consumed by work.

Nothing to Hide  As we finished covering the former unit titled Honesty is the Best Policy, a French movie named Nothing to Hide (Le Jeu) suddenly  came to my mind. The film’s plot involved a group of old friends who gathered one evening for a dinner party. Unit 2. Honesty is the Best Policy.

There are many reasons why people lie, but all those reason end up wit the same goal: to get something in their favor.  We all have lied at a certain point in our life, to get a job, to convince someone of something, to run away with murder, and so on. Those pretty lies are seen like something that are fine and like if they are not going to cause any damage but that is not always true, some lies can bring really bad consequences. The Tipping Point

The Tipping Point According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a tipping point is " the critical point in a situation, process, or system beyond which a significant and often unstoppable effect or change takes place ". With this said, I think globalization has proven to be one of the most remarkable tipping points in worldwide history as it has had a tremendous effect in world economy, education, ideologies, health, and several other aspects of humanity.  For instance, it has made countries depend upon each other for sustaining their economy (e.g. tourism, petroleum, etc.) and also through free trade treaties.
