The Tipping Point

Currently Corona virus is a worldwide tipping point, since it has changed our lives in so many ways, especially the life of  young people like me that did not know that a pandemic could have such effects. Some of the issues that we have been facing lately are: increases in the prices of essential products to feed our family, suspension of flies all over the world, suspension of any event that implies gathering of people, close of universities, schools, churches, and even businesses that do not sell food or medicine.

Even though for many it does not mean anything, because they are doing as they please, acting carelessly, like anything is going on, as I take it, this situation is terrible, because in order to survive, we must be far from our loved ones, closeted in our houses without receiving help from any institution, and watching the news, noticing how thousands of persons are dying everywhere and no advances are made to stop the spread of the virus.

This situation is terrible and out of control. We can be infected even by touching our own faces (mouth, eyes, nose) or hugging someone, which is hard to me, because I love cuddles, and we Dominicans like to be close to each other, get together to share, also enjoy every free day we have.

I have been praying to the Lord, because He is the only one who truly can forgive our sins, heal our earth, and control this situation. I wish this would be over now.

Nothing to Hide  As we finished covering the former unit titled Honesty is the Best Policy, a French movie named Nothing to Hide (Le Jeu) suddenly  came to my mind. The film’s plot involved a group of old friends who gathered one evening for a dinner party. Things soon got out of hand after they decide to play a game that consisted in surrendering their cellphones, and placing them in the center of the dinner table, so as to allow all of them equal access to each other’s incoming calls and messages as proof that none of them had nothing to “hide” or conceal from each other. Unit 2. Honesty is the Best Policy.

There are many reasons why people lie, but all those reason end up wit the same goal: to get something in their favor.  We all have lied at a certain point in our life, to get a job, to convince someone of something, to run away with murder, and so on. The Tipping Point

The Tipping Point According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a tipping point is " the critical point in a situation, process, or system beyond which a significant and often unstoppable effect or change takes place ". With this said, I think globalization has proven to be one of the most remarkable tipping points in worldwide history as it has had a tremendous effect in world economy, education, ideologies, health, and several other aspects of humanity.  For instance, it has made countries depend upon each other for sustaining their economy (e.g. tourism, petroleum, etc.) and also through free trade treaties.
