Unit 1: The Internet and Other Additions
First
of all, in order to have a clear understanding of the word addition and what to
be an addict actually implies, we have to know not only what an addition is,
but also identify when someone is an internet addict and what are the consequences
of being an addict. Truth be told, I will finally let you some recommendations
for the ones that are internet addicts already and some warning for the ones
that are not but could possibly get involved into this unhealthy habit.
When
we talk about addition, we are using a term which refers not only to dependence
on substances such as heroin or cocaine. A person who cannot stop taking a
particular substance or doing a particular activity has a noticeable dependence.
Additions involve an inability to stop doing such activities (it could be
gambling, eating, even working). In this case, a person obviously has a behavioral
addiction; and this is the kind of addiction that internet addicts belong to.
Clarifying
the previous definition of addition, an addiction is a psychological and
physical inability to stop consuming a chemical, drug, activity, or substance,
even though it is causing psychological and physical harm. Thus, being an
internet habit is not convenient for human beings and it could drive us to
extremely bad circumstances in our lives such as losing the control of the info
we share about ourselves, which means sometimes people do not realize how much
details of their personal life they are letting people know. Also, people can experience
a lack of concentration in significance activities of their daily lives, and
thus, they could physically attend one place but their minds could be in a
totally different place; they compulsively check their phones or any other device,
leaving reality aside. Moreover, as a consequence of the extreme use of
internet, people forget about sleeping at a proper time. Users experience
headaches and have some affections because of interrupting the night rest
checking their devices.
Due
to all these matters, I will like to enlighten you by giving you quite
important ways out. First and foremost, you have to be aware of the problem.
Being honest with yourself in order to observe this limit and comprehend this addiction
is personally, academically and professionally affecting your entire life.
Also, you have to ask for help because it is very hard to go through all this
by your own, actually, most of the people just cannot make it alone.
Finally,
I would like to let you know what you should do to avoid this addiction. First,
give priority to relationships which require meetings and personal
conversations once in a while. Furthermore, try to find joy in the freedom of speeding
good time without taking any photo to upload it, instead, observe the little
details and save them in your memory. Last, turn your cellphone off, or leave
it in another room while you are at home. It is good to enjoy time with daily
activities and get used to it, you could even schedule this moment and make it
part of your daily life. In conclusion, being an internet addict is harmful and
unhealthy, thus, all of us must do all we can against this matter, so we do not
become a compulsive abuser of the usage of internet.
