Unit 4: The Tipping Point
Unit 4 Tipping Point
First, we saw the concept of tipping point in the class, the last meeting we had. The professor said that tipping point is something important, such as when we graduate from the university, when we get our first job, when we get married, among other examples.
After that class, we have not been able to meet again, however the professor was talking about this concept through the whatsapp group. He said that a tipping point is an important change that happens in a country's life or in a person's life, or in a situation.
One perfect example of a tipping point in the world is the Coronavirus (COVID-19) which has changed the world in many aspects. Affecting the economy, people's life, the way people behave, education, among others things. Moreover, some other examples were given from the professor and students, such as: when a person has his or her first child, the Independence Day in a country, Rafael Leonidas Trujillo's death in the Dominican Republic, the creation of the “metro” in D.R., the 911 system, the situation that happened in the election of February 16th in our country, the legalization of gay marriage in the United States, among other examples.
The professor clarified that quarantine in general is not an example of tipping point because it has existed before, but Coronavirus quarantine is a tipping point because it is new. Also, he clarified that “corruption” is not an example of tipping point, however the vision that people have now about corruption is a tipping point because nowadays they see corruption in a different way, their ideas about it have changed as well as the way people fight corruption currently.
After all, I think that the concept tipping point has been understood, and clear for everyone, if not almost everyone who saw the explanation and examples given by the professor. I liked the way we saw this unit, I would like to add some examples of what I think is a tipping point in my life, for instance, when I had my daughter, when I get my first job in the United States, when I created my own first business, and when I got married.
