Unit 7. Workplace Privacy.

Hello everybody!

In this post I would like to share my personal experience while working in a call center. That is a workplace with a lot of privacy policies.

Before hiring me, they made me take a drug test. I think that that is a very common practice in big companies. But I was really surprised about all that security they have since you enter the company until you get to your workplace. For example, the employers keep an eye on all employees through checking video cameras, tracking their smart ID badges, keeping a log of all office phone conversations, and reading their incoming and outgoing emails.

I do not think there is something a harmful or sinister about those monitoring practices. Instead what I think is that those practices are very helpful in order to deter theft, check for any abuse language or racial slurs. On top of that, every employee deals with customer’s personal bank information that they do not want to be revealed or use against their will.

To me, workplace privacy is for employee’s own’s safety. If their doing their work in a good way, there is nothing to be worried about.
