An essay to share.

Internet and other addictions.

Introduction

Addictions?!!, What are you talking about ?!, I’m not an addict. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, it is just coffee. I’m just surfing the net, etc.
Whenever we talk about addictions or talking to an addicts their first answer is NO, that they are not addicts.

On this essay, I will develop this topic and also some investigations about different addictions and also an interview that I will do to my little sister which she is a drug addict.

It is sad for me to say that she is an addict, behind every addict there is a story, I will develop this topic explaining about my sister’s addiction, how she got it and what is she doing to get rid of that drug addiction.

Addictions are not only difficult for the person suffering or maybe enjoy the addiction, but it also affects their families.

On this essay, you will have a better understanding of the side effects of addictions, what are the negative effects that cause to someone’s self-esteem, health, economy, families, etc.

Drug addictions

I will first of all start saying that my 18-year-old sister is a drug addict person.  In the introduction I mentioned that every addiction has a story, no one is born being a drug addict, a bay by might be born with the abstinence syndrome, but never being addicted to anything.

My sister who is addicted to Marijuana or weed since she was around 14 years old, started because of my mother and two brother’s death. She was 10 years old when she found the body of our brother. This psychologically affected her, my mother was also affected and she was not capable to keep on going even with her own life, imagine if she were capable enough to raise my little sister.

My sister was very depressed but everybody in the family it was as well unable to control their feelings and I guess my father did not have money to take us to therapy to recover that lost in the family. My little sister took the worst part and the only way that she was fulfilled it was by smoking, it is sad to say that she got her own support group with other drug addicts people in the area.

I asked her what do you feel, and how that makes me feel better in any given situation. She told me that she liked to see the smoke while her muscles are relaxing and that she was not feeling alone because she was surrounded by others feeling the same as her, she also said that she feels happy and she wipes away all her current issues.  I asked her what does she feel after she finishes her trip and all side effects end. She said “I feel really sad that I had to come back home and see our mother crying day by day”
That was very depressing for me and I felt very sorry that I was not able to do anything for her at that moment when she was a teenager.

Drug addiction overview according to
Mayo Clinic.

“Drug addiction, also called substance use disorder, is a disease that affects a person's brain and behavior and leads to an inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug or medication. Substances such as alcohol, marijuana, and nicotine also are considered drugs. When you're addicted, you may continue using the drug despite the harm it causes.

Drug addiction can start with an experimental use of a a recreational drug in social situations, and, for some people, the drug use becomes more frequent. For others, particularly with opioids, drug addiction begins with exposure to prescribed medications, or receiving medications from a friend or relative who has been prescribed the medication.

The risk of addiction and how fast you become addicted varies by drug. Some drugs, such as opioid painkillers, have a higher risk and cause addiction more quickly than others.

As time passes, you may need larger doses of the drug to get high. Soon you may need the drug just to feel good. As your drug use increases, you may find that it's increasingly difficult to go without the drug. Attempts to stop drug use may cause intense cravings and make you feel physically ill (withdrawal symptoms)
You may need help from your doctor, family, friends, support groups or an organized treatment program to overcome your drug addiction and stay drug-free”

Internet Addiction.

A lot of people suffer this addiction disorder, the majority of us will not recognize that they are addicted and I don’t blame them, life is now designed for us to depend on the internet to work properly.

Before Covid-19 we were using our smartphones anywhere for school, work, church, and different other scenarios of our daily life.

During Covid-19 people are now using more and more the net not only surfing it just because, but using it wisely. A lot of people are now being forced to have or use social media. My grandmother needs to use WhatsApp to communicate through video with me because we cannot physically see each other.

This was something that she was not used to but no it is necessary for her to see at least through a mobile device or computer, older people are now being more engage than before to understand the Internet and be connected to the world.

So, if the Internet is so useful What’s the matter?!

My answer to this question will be: TIME AND CLASSIFICATION OF INFORMATION.

Since now information is coming out from everywhere and anywhere we need to make sure which is the correct sourcing and if the information that we are handling is coming from a trustful source. People are getting pay for likes and shares, so there is a whole world trying to make money out of this but putting together pieces of information that may or may not be true just to get likes and shares to make them rich and famous.

The main issue with the Internet is using it wisely and trying to get something out of it. There is plenty of people creating support groups for anything, and we might consider the term “Support Groups” for people that actually have a problem but not now.
You can join any support group for any activity you like to get help, approval, tips, and tricks.  I personally love crafting and recycling and I joined different support groups on Facebook to know new things and also to share my experience with others.

Conclusion.

I explained what drug addiction represents for me, and how I see it, how I do not judge people or maybe even treat them bad is not good at all. Of course, there is a lot of people doing drug just because, but every time I see someone that is under drugs or maybe running out of money because this reminds me that there is a story behind it.

I have learned by true story of my life not to judge people for being addicted. I do recommend them to join support groups and if I see someone from “Hogares Crea” I try to buy them anything that they are selling.

In regards to the Internet, addiction was something that I had to deal with. I even took a time management course for me to use wisely my time. I do ask myself every time I surf the net if what I’m doing will give me either knowledge or money or will keep me informed if the answer is no I try to avoid it. Of course, I’m not perfect, sometimes I spend time watching funny videos on YouTube.

In conclusion, the Internet is not bad at all, it actually has helped us a lot during this pandemic, I’m capable to keep the college from home, my Son’s school, working from home, informed in regards to everything around, I have watched Dominican 2020 elections live, and also keeps me connected with my family members that I’m not able to visit because of Covid-19.

So the best tip that I can provide to you is to classify the information before devoting time to the Internet and try to always learn something new.
